for Materials

We believe that artistry begins with quality components. Through unsurpassed craftsmanship, we bring out the sheer beauty of exquisite materials such as diamonds, gemstones, precious metals and more.

18K Gold

18K gold is primarily used in EMPHASIS collections. ‘K’ stands for karat, a measurement of gold purity. 18K gold consists of 18 parts or 75% pure gold, combined with 6 parts other metals to form an exquisite alloy that is durable, wear-resistant, and ideal for creating intricate jewellery. 18K gold can also be made in a range of colours and textured finishes, such as satin, brushed and the like.

Most jewellers use electroplating to superficially add colour to the surface of gold to create dynamic designs. However, this thin layer can easily wear off to expose the gold’s original colour. For this reason, we insist on Real Multi-tone where possible, a production technique in which 18K gold components of different colours are fused together to form the final jewellery piece. Although more complicated and costly, Real Multi-tone technique ensures EMPHASIS jewellery can stand the test of time.

Caring for 18K gold

To keep your 18K jewellery looking as brilliant as the day it first captured your heart, simply wipe with a clean jewellery cloth and avoid contact with sharp objects.

Natural Diamonds

To uphold our exceptional standards for colour, clarity and cut, all of the diamonds we source are rigorously tested in our own laboratory. Our experienced gemmologists appraise and inspect each diamond to ensure a clarity of SI or above, as well as a Near Colourless (G, H) grading or better.

We believe that aesthetics and ethics go hand in hand. To ensure you are getting ethically sourced diamonds, we only collaborate with suppliers that adhere to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.

Caring for Diamonds

Although diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substance, care should be taken when wearing your jewellery to prevent the diamonds from being dislodged by hard impacts. To keep the diamonds sparkling bright, gently clean with a soft brush and warm soapy water.

Ecruloy™

Ecruloy™ is our exclusive alloy of silver, gold and other precious metals. The name is a portmanteau of ‘ecru’ (the colour of pure silk) and ‘alloy’. Developed by EMPHASIS, Ecruloy™ features a lustrous champagne hue that complements most complexions. As you wear it, Ecruloy™ develops a patina that is influenced by your body chemistry, imparting a truly personalised allure to your jewellery.

Caring for Ecruloy™

As it contains silver, Ecruloy™ will develop a warm patina that is uniquely influenced by your body chemistry. To restore its original lustre, simply wipe clean with a silver polishing cloth. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals such as perfumes and cosmetics.

Sterling Silver

Pure silver is soft and can be easily scratched, which is why it is alloyed with other metals to create sterling silver. Comprised of 92.5% silver combined with other metals, sterling silver is harder and less prone to oxidation than pure silver, making it ideal for the stunning designs in our collections.

Natural Gemstones

Our gemstones are sourced from all over the world, including South Africa, the United States, Argentina and Sri Lanka. Our gemmologists carry out stringent appraisals in our own laboratory to guarantee each stone meets our standards of excellence. Our experienced artisans meticulously cut and polish each gemstone to bring out its best qualities.

Caring for Gemstones

Wipe with a jewellery cloth regularly to keep the gemstones looking beautiful and new. To avoid damaging the gemstones, do not use ultrasonic cleaning equipment.

Mother-of-Pearl

Prized for its mesmerising radiance and shimmering hues, mother-of-pearl imparts an air of sophistication to our creations. We carefully select high quality mother-of-pearl from the United States and Australia, and our skilled jewellers craft them into 3 dimensional ornate forms that exude luxury.

Caring for Mother-of-Pearl

Mother-of-pearl is very delicate. Wipe gently with a jewellery cloth and avoid contact with chemicals such as perfume or cosmetics.
